Story

Mezzatorre’s story begins in the 16th century, when an Aragonese watchtower was built on this rocky promontory to guard the Gulf of Naples. From its lofty position above the sea, sentries once scanned the horizon for approaching ships, long before Ischia became a sanctuary for artists, writers and travellers seeking beauty and restoration.

Over the centuries, the tower passed through noble hands and evolved into a private retreat, most famously serving as a refuge for filmmaker Luchino Visconti, whose nearby residence, La Colombaia, still overlooks the pine shaded park. In 2019, the property was thoughtfully reimagined by Marie Louise Sciò and Pellicano Hotels, preserving its historic soul while introducing a fresh, sun washed elegance rooted in Italian design.

Set within seven hectares of Mediterranean gardens on Ischia’s wild northwest coast, Mezzatorre remains deeply connected to sea, stone and thermal spring, offering a restorative escape shaped by history, culture and the enduring rhythms of island life.
