Set against Mount Kenya, Lengishu House is an exclusive safari residence within Borana Conservancy in northern Kenya. Family owned and built by Kenyan artisans using local materials, it pairs thoughtful design with immersive wildlife experiences.

Story

At the foot of Mount Kenya on the vast Laikipia Plateau, Lengishu House was born from a love affair with Kenya’s wild landscapes and its people. Opened in 2019 as a family home within Borana Conservancy, it offers something rare in East Africa: the freedom of a private residence set at the heart of one of the continent’s most celebrated rhino sanctuaries.

Built from stone quarried on site and timber sourced within Kenya, the house rises gently from the hillside, blending into the earth rather than dominating it. Six bedrooms are set across four cottages, each facing the valley for uninterrupted sunrise views across open plains where elephant and giraffe roam. Interiors are warm and deeply personal, curated with Kenyan craft and meaningful pieces gathered over decades, while fireplaces glow in the cool mountain evenings and broad terraces frame a landscape untouched by man made light.

Lengishu’s story is inseparable from conservation. The family became shareholders in Borana Conservancy to help secure expanding habitat for black and white rhino, contributing to the Lewa Borana Landscape, now one of East Africa’s largest continuous rhino sanctuaries. Every stay sustains this fragile ecosystem, allowing guests to experience Kenya’s wild frontier while actively protecting it.

Location and Surroundings

Located at the heart of Borana Conservancy on the Laikipia Plateau, Lengishu House sits on the slopes of Mount Kenya within 32,000 acres of protected wilderness, surrounded by rolling hills, acacia woodland and open savannah.

Set within the Laikipia Plateau at the foot of Mount Kenya, Borana Lodge overlooks rolling hills, acacia woodland and open plains where wildlife moves freely across the conservancy. From its hillside cottages, guests look out over the Hyena Valley Dam as elephants gather below and the light shifts across Kenya’s wild frontier.
